STITCH & STORY: Crewel Embroidery Workshops
Three workshops coming this Autumn and Winter in collaboration with textile artist Carrie Buchanan.
Crewel is an ancient form of embroidery that uses wool instead of cotton. It dates from at least the eleventh century, and its most famous use is in the Bayeaux Tapestry, which tells the story of the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
Led by Carrie, come and try your hand – or improve your skill – at making a piece of crewel art, and learn how embroidery can tell a story. Accompanied by storyteller Becca, who will relate tales from Northumbrian folklore to weave into the threads.
INTRODUCTION TO STORYTELLING
With Storyteller Becca, come and learn some of the principles of traditional storytelling, find your storytelling voice, and build your confidence to share a story with an audience.
Suitable for anyone who wants to be able to tell a story, whether as part of your professional life or personal. While the focus is on traditional stories in the workshop, the tools you take away will be valuable in any setting. You will, however, be encouraged to put the book or text down and tell straight from yourself.
Friday 12th September. 10-1. £20/person.
Saturday 4th October. 10-1. £20/person.
