Stories for Schools

What do I offer for schools?

I offer a standard story session of up to one hour or longer sessions (see Contact & Fees page for rates), with stories tailored to a younger audience.

For my longer sessions, I can provide activities and discussion around the story. I also offer a Story-Making workshop, which combines creative writing skills with storytelling techniques, introduces and examines some of the key elements of a traditional story, and gives children the chance to begin crafting and telling their own stories based around a sense of place.

I may also be able to provide a tailored session including themes relevant to what children are studying, if provided with information and learning goals beforehand. This is by discussion, and may include an additional fee (by prior agreement) for time spent on preparation.

What do I offer for other educational groups?

I can provide the same or modified sessions as above for other groups, including Home School groups. Please contact to discuss requirements.

Who am I, and what do I bring?

I have a post-graduate masters degree in Writing for Young People, an undergraduate degree in History, specialising in the north of England, and extensive experience in working with children and young people, in teaching, creative, and support roles.

I have spent ten years working creatively with children, running workshops around art, creative writing, drama, and environmental/nature-based themes, delivering welfare support, advocacy and counselling, and teaching English as a Foreign Language through drama, storytelling and play. I’ve worked with children and young adults from many different cultures and backgrounds, including vulnerable young people, and those with additional support needs.

I believe in the power of story to teach, connect, and fire the imagination. I have successfully used storytelling with many groups of children, including those with behavioural disorders, and non-English-speakers.

I am part of the Scottish PVG Scheme (Criminal Records Check) and am happy to provide evidence of this if requested. I have also undergone training in Child Protection.
