Folklore and Heritage Walks

Join me for a bespoke walk around the beautiful paths of Ford, Etal and Heatherslaw, exploring the forgotten folklore, hidden history and living landscape of this remarkable corner of Northumberland.

Use the CONTACT PAGE to book a bespoke guided experience that gives you a unique view of the stories and histories beneath our picturesque landscape.

Hear stories both true and mythical, from Medieval life in the Borderlands to local ghost stories; lost folk customs of Ford and Etal to individual stories of real people; Cheviot fairies to the hidden traces of WW2 in the landscape. Get beneath the surface of our history and discover stories you won’t find in any guide book.

Guided by storyteller and folklore researcher Becca, of Spindrift Stories, who grew up in the area and attended school in Ford, each walk draws on years of local knowledge and research to reveal the stories, people and traditions that have shaped the land around us.

Attractive paths, spectacular views, plenty of wildlife to spot, a knowledgeable local guide, and a walk fully tailored to your needs and interests make this a truly unique experience.

Short walks start from £25 per group (includes up to 3 people). Additional participants £10 each.

Extended walks start from £50 per group (includes up to 3 people). Additional participants £15 each.

For those looking for a longer adventure, I also offer occasional half-day explorations. These walks take in less-visited corners of the Estates and may involve rougher, muddier terrain. Prices for these walks are quoted individually.

Every walk is tailored to your interests, mobility requirements and preferred level of walking. All pricing will be agreed in advance.

Availability is limited to Fridays and Saturdays between June and October 2026. Weather may affect available routes. All walks include stops to look at sites and hear stories from your guide.
